LAUGHLIN — Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers in Laughlin responded to four crimes against people and 11 crimes against property reported in Laughlin from Dec. 9 through 21.

An aggravated assault with a knife topped the list of violent crimes. Two motor vehicle thefts, two thefts from buildings, two thefts from vehicles and two fraud offenses were among the property crimes reported.

All four crimes against people were listed as assaults, with three reported as “simple assaults” and the fourth listed as aggravated assault.

The aggravated assault took place at 11 p.m. on Dec. 20 at Needles Highway and Cal Edison Drive, and police reported a knife or cutting weapon allegedly was used against the victim.

Simple assaults were reported at 2:40 a.m. on Dec. 10 in the 2100 block of S. Casino Drive; at approximately 4 a.m. on Dec. 17 in the 2300 block of S. Casino Drive; and at approximately 1 p.m. on Dec. 18 in the 2200 block of Cougar Drive. Although all the assaults were listed as violent crimes, the only weapons reportedly used in the simple assault cases were “personal weapons,” meaning fists, hands, feet, teeth or other body parts.

In the crimes against property category, two motor vehicle thefts, two thefts from a building, two thefts from a motor vehicle, two fraud reports listed as false pretenses, swindle or confidence games, two crimes listed as destruction, damage or vandalism of property and one crimes described as “all other larceny” occurred between Dec. 9 and 21.

The first motor vehicle theft was reported at approximately 5 p.m. on Dec. 15 in the 3500 block of Bay Sands Drive. The second vehicle theft during this period was reported at 12:14 on Dec. 17 in a location not included on the police log.

Theft from a building was reported at around 9 a.m. on Dec. 11 in the 3600 block of Needles Highway. Another theft from a building occurred at noon on Dec. 11 in the 1900 block of S. Casino Drive.

Theft from a motor vehicle was reported at 9:07 on Dec. 13 in the 2100 block of S. Casino Drive. A second theft from a vehicle occurred in the 2500 block of Illumination Bay Place at 9:40 a.m. on Dec. 13.

Crimes of destruction, damage or vandalism of property were reported shortly after 10 a.m. on Dec. 14 in the 2200 block of S. Casino Drive and at 6 a.m. on Dec. 17 in the 1600 block of S. Casino Drive.

The two reports of crimes categorized as fraud and described false pretenses, swindle or confidence games occurred at 9 a.m. on Dec. 14 in the 3100 block of Needles Highway and slightly before 3 p.m. on Dec. 21 in the 2800 block of Biscaya Drive.

The final crime in this 13-day time period was in the larceny or theft category listed as “all other larceny” reported at 10:19 a.m. on Dec. 20 in the 2300 block of Thornwood Castle Drive.

In accordance with the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), LVMPD crime reports are separated into three categories: Crimes against people, crimes against property, or crimes against society. With crimes against people, the victims are always individuals. The object of crimes against property is to obtain money, property, or some other benefit. Crimes against society represent society’s prohibition against engaging in certain types of activity.
